A group of pupils from Classes 3 and 6 of Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur recently paid a visit to The Chocolate Factory in Swansea.
This was a chance to see in real life the origins and making of chocolate as portrayed in the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
The pupils have been reading and discussing the book by Roald Dahl as a part of their studies.
They were given a tour of the factory and were allowed to taste some of the products. Their greatest surprise was to see Easter eggs in production!
Whereas in the past the bars of chocolate would have been wrapped by hand, manufacturing today is greatly mechanised, and the pupils were fascinated to see the machines in action.
The pupils have been involved in follow-up research in to the world of chocolate and have developed a map showing the countries where we source the beans used to make it. They have also contributed an article for the school newsletter.
