Celebrate Victory with a Char and a Wad! That's the invitation from the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre where Victory in Europe 70 years ago is being celebrated with wartime fare which will bring back memories to many.

At the Heritage Centre - in the Royal Dockyard Chapel - spam and jam sandwiches will be on offer together with a 'wad' - a slice of fruit cake. All to be washed down by a nice cup of 'char' - free if a sandwich or cake are purchased.

All this happens on VE-Day Plus 70, Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Adding to the wartime scene will be Centre's volunteers and staff who will be entering in the spirit of the times by wearing 1940s clothes and styles. And photographs of Victory Celebrations in the area will also be on view.

The Heritage Centre's Oral History Team will be on hand to record wartime memories of visitors. There will be activities for young visitors and stories, memories and photographs of these stirring times 70 years ago. And the American GIs and their special connections with Pembrokeshire will be told in a talk by Gareth Mills of the Sunderland Trust.
