TO allow for a Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise, Castlemartin firing range’s most recently published warning notices show 24-hour road and footpath closures from May 26 to June 19.

A Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise (CALFEX) is a high-intensity, multi-day training event involving live ammunition to simulate real combat scenarios.

The extent of the Sea Danger Area is 3Nm West between Great Furznip and Linney Head; 5Nm South between Linney Head and St Govans Head.

120mm, 30mm, 7.62mm and 5.56mm Weapon Systems Firing will take place during this period.

On weekdays between May 26 and June 19, the CALFEX at Castlemartin range will see continuous closure of the road from Bosherston to St Govan’s Chapel and the footpath from St Govan’s Head to Broadhaven, also the road leading to Stack Rocks (Green Bridge of Wales) and the footpath to St Govans.

Opening times for the above mentioned roads and footpaths on weekdays in the preceding days are: May 20 closed 7.30am-4.45pm; May 21 closed day and night (24 hours from 7.30am); May 22 open.

The roads and footpaths will be open for the whole week following the CALFEX: June 22-26.

Regardless of the timings, however, do not cross the range boundary when warning signals are displayed. Warning signals are red flags by day and red lamps by night; range boundaries are marked by red and white poles. Red flags and red lamps indicate that live firing is taking place within the range boundaries.

Entering the danger area when in use could result in loss of life.
