Communication received from a resident regarding the difficulty her daughter has in studying for a career as a farrier. It seems there is a full four years training needed at Hereford and Ludlow College, but Welsh Government has apparently cut funding for the course as it is not in Wales. Councillors discussed this matter and suggestions where the resident and her daughter might access funding.
BOUNDARIES COMMISSION
The chairman read out a letter from Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales document addressed to clerks of the community and town councils in the county of Pembrokeshire. The Boundary Commission proposes to combine the communities of Carew and Jeffreyston to form an electoral ward with 1,630 electors. Detailed discussions ensued and the following points made:
The joining with Jeffreyston ward would not be advantageous to Carew as Carew has its own unique historical imprint. Carew has a castle and history of importance surrounding this. Carew is a tourist area. Carew consists of eight hamlets/villages. Within these hamlets/villages are compact communities and residential housing developments. Carew already has around 1,200 on the electoral role. The community of Martletwy would be much better served with the 400-plus electors from Jeffreyston, as Martletwy and Jeffreyston rural area are much the same. Jeffreyston communities are more akin to farming and agricultural communities and are not similar to Carew. A union of Jeffreyston and Martletwy would make a much more cohesive union than it would be with Carew. Carew should be independent of any merger due to its historic value and uniqueness.
It was agreed to let the Boundary Commission know the above views of the community council.
