Caldey Island will be opening for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 1 - after being completely closed last year due to the pandemic.

Normally thousands of day-visitors would have visited the monastic island last year over the holiday period, but the decision was made to keep Caldey closed for 2020, due to the many aspects involved in getting people across to the island from Tenby via the ramp, the boats and the amphibious vehicle, and the difficulty in implementing strict safety measures on the island, with the Abbey deciding that the safety of both islanders and visitors would be compromised if boats were to resume.

However, the iconic Caldey Boats were still able to offer a variety of trips around the island over the summer period once the national lockdown ended.

“Caldey Island will be opening for the 2021 season on May 1 - we are so looking forward to welcoming back visitors this year,” stated a post on Caldey’s Facebook page on Wednesday morning.
