Mrs. Nancy Selby, of Pembroke Dock, celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, November 29, at Holyland Lodge, Pembroke Dock, with family and friends.
Mrs. Selby, who received birthday greetings from the Queen, has three daughters, Janet Hallett. of Cosheston, Susie Jones. of Pembroke, and Jennifer Bowen, of Ross-on-Wye, together with six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She has sadly lost one grandson.
The daughter of Pembroke Dock coal merchant Wilfred Rees, Mrs. Selby's first job was in service at Dale Castle, with Colonel Lloyd Phillips, receiving a wage of £18 a year.
She then worked for a fishing trawler firm in Penarth, (The Neale family), where she met her late husband, Charlie.
After the war, the couple moved to Pembrokeshire and Charlie Selby took up the post of chauffeur to Mrs. Basil Ramsden, of Cosheston Hall, where the family lived for 21 years.
A former WI cookery judge in the district, Mrs. Selby still enjoys knitting - and is currently making bedsocks for her companions at Hollyland!
