On Thursday, October 10, at 1 pm, St. Patrick's Church in Military Road, Pennar, Pembroke Dock, will be hosting a very special - possibly unique in Pembrokeshire - 'wedding', as two pupils (Jessica Wallace and Alfie Murray) from Pennar Community School 'get married' before a congregation of fellow pupils.

The ceremony, which with vows, rings, Bible reading and registers, will mirror a real wedding ceremony, will be the result of weeks of planning between the school and Vicar of Pembroke Dock, Rev. Nicky Skipworth, a frequent visitor for assemblies and parent of three children herself.

Throughout the earlier stages of the project, children in Year 2 have been learning about why people get married and what happens during the ceremony. Excitement has been growing as, just like any real life couple, the children get closer to the 'Big Day'.

A best man, bridesmaids and even a vicar's assistant have been chosen to enhance the experience.

St. Patrick's very own verger, Mr. Doug Albury, will be on hand to ensure everything is in order on the day. Nicky will lead the service and pronounce the 'marriage'.

Nicky said: "I am absolutely delighted and privileged to work with Pennar Community School in this way and want the preparations and actual ceremony to be as true to life as possible.

"This has included meeting with the couple to discuss their wishes and calling the Banns three times, all of which have been done during recent assemblies; the children have also asked many wonderful questions. In return, I have loaned a few items from our own wedding to the school, including my wedding dress.

"It is great fun and I want to thank the school for asking me to help. As with any forthcoming wedding, I am praying for everyone concerned."

Liz Knights (Year 2 teacher) said: "The children have really got into the spirit of the wedding project and are so looking forward to the Big Day.

"Through it, we are helping Year 2 children and the whole school to explore important life values such as Unity and Understanding. We are so grateful to Nicky and the church family at St. Patrick's for all their enthusiasm and practical help."
