A man from Pembroke Dock who admitted having "a couple" after being involved in an accident has been given a lengthy ban for drink-driving.
Sixty-one-year-old Keith Jack, of Preselly View, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving his motor vehicle having consumed a level of 106 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Mr. Peter Lloyd told the court that police officers attended an accident at Belle Vue Terrace involving two vehicles shortly after 4 pm on Saturday, March 1, which the defendant was involved in.
"Mr. Jack's Subaru Impreza was blocking part of the road and when officers spoke to him on the side of the road, he said 'I was driving, I don't know what happened, I've had a couple', before a roadside breath test proved positive," explained Mr. Lloyd.
The defendant's solicitor, Mr. Mark Layton, told the court that his client believed that his car tyre had blown out and caused the accident. However, he admitted that drink was probably a factor too.
Presiding magistrate, Mrs. Elizabeth Hardcastle, told the defendant that he had recorded a very high level of alcohol in his system and was intoxicated.
"You were a menace and danger to other people; it was a Saturday afternoon and you could have run somebody over," she remarked.
Mr. Jack was fined £1,000 for the offence and disqualified from driving for 28 months.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £100 victim surcharge.
