Councillors in Tenby have welcomed anniversary celebrations planned for a local church this year.
The United Reformed and Methodist Church of St. Johns in Warren Street is celebrating its 150th anniversary, with a number of planned events in place throughout the year to mark the occasion.
“We commence the year with a revival of our popular ‘daffodil festival’ over the period and weekend of St. David’s Day,” said the church secretary, Graham Powell, in a letter that came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night, with an invitation extended to the Mayor to open the event on the morning of Wednesday, February 28, with the festival set to run until March 4.
Other planned events include a Noson Lawen with fish and chip supper on February 24, a display of church history from May 24 to June 2, and a knitted Bible display at the church between July 24 and August 24.
Further events across 2018 feature various concerts and the Christmas tree festival from December 7.
“What a lovely idea and nice of them to inform us of all of these events,” commented Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, with her colleague Clr. Trevor Hallett passing on his best wishes to the organisers on behalf of the town council.
