So now the possible real reason for the enormous hike in our council tax has been revealed: each of our councillors is in line for a £200 bung courtesy of The Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales. At a time when our services are pared to the bone, what a gross insult to the council tax payers of Pembrokeshire, especially so soon into the start of the new financial year.

I wonder how many councillors will do the decent thing and waive their right to this seemingly unjustified increase. If I were not a law-abiding citizen, it would be very tempting to withhold future council tax payments in protest.

The proposed merger of Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion can’t come soon enough; although, no doubt, we will then have redundancy payments to contend with!
