Sir,
Firstly, I wish to thank you for kindly printing my original request for help in tracing where my father stayed during his evacuation. My email box over the next few days was inundated with information sent by people living in the local area. My father and I were amazed by the response.
The good news is that we believe that we have found the farm and family in question. The focus had been on the Cold Blow area because of the name of the farm. However, following information provided, Cold Blow Farm was traced to Camrose. Harold Mabe lived on the farm with his sister Etta and took in two evacuee boys, Alan and Derek, during the war. This information was provided by the son of Harold Mabe, who still lives on the original site of Cold Blow Farm, although the farm has been re-developed over the years.
My father Alan is certain this is the family and the farm as so many memories of the names and area have come back to him. He is busy planning a trip to Wales this summer to view the site and re-kindle his happy memories of the people and the surrounding areas.
We would like to thank everybody who responded to our request. We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the support and assistance received. We would like to particularly thank Vicky Mitchell and members of the Mabe family who made this possible.
