An abandoned vehicle which had been reported stolen in January 2014 and later discovered in the water at Hobbs Point, has been recovered.
The successful removal of a Mitsubishi Colt was achieved thanks to a number of Waterway service providers working together. In accordance with the Milford Haven Conservancy Act 1983, the Port of Milford Haven undertook to remove the wreckage from the Waterway, after being unable to identify the legal owner of the vehicle. As an obstruction to the navigation of leisure users in the area, the Port instructed the services of Williams Shipping and Kaymac Marine & Civil Engineering to locate and lift the car from the seabed last week.
Volunteer divers from Neptune's Army of Rubbish Cleaners (NARC) had discovered the car in 2014 during one of their clean-up dives off Hobbs Point and had reported its positon to the Port of Milford Haven. At the time, its position was not considered a hazard, however during the winter it had moved closer to the quay wall - the site of a seasonal pontoon used by yachtsmen and a popular 'tombstoning' area. As well as being an obstruction to navigation this final position also highlights the hidden dangers that can be lurking beneath the water and serves as a warning to young people who think it is safe to jump from height into the water.
