Vandals who destroyed equipment at one of Tenby’s popular play parks could be feeling the heat from the police after being branded as ‘idiots’ by the town council.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that an incident occurred over the weekend at the Jubilee play park overlooking South Beach, where one of the swings was damaged.
“Sadly, someone thought that it was a good idea to light a fire in one of the basket swings at the Jubilee play park, which is now inoperable as it has melted away,” he explained.
“We’re looking at getting a replacement swing, but it’s upsetting that we will have to dip into funds to use money to replace something rather than enhance it, because some idiots decided to vandalise the play park.
“That area of the town has been a problem of late for anti-social behaviour, and police are monitoring it very closely,” he added.
Councillors recently supported proposals to upgrade every play park in Tenby, and work to secure outside funding available for health, fitness and play provision for the town.
Clr. Mike Evans said that residents at Newell Hill were interested in coming on board the scheme, and suggested that the town council engage with all areas of the community that wished to see their existing play parks enhanced.
