A Pembroke man has been given 12 weeks in custody after admitting breaching the terms of a suspended sentence order.
Twenty-nine-year-old Nathan Hague appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to the offence.
Magistrates heard how an arrest warrant had been issued last November after Mr. Hague had failed to attend a number of appointments with the probation service, and keep them informed of his whereabouts.
The defendant had been handed a 12-week suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a domestic assault charge when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates Court in May of last year.
Probation officer Julie Norman told the court that the last contact that the defendant had with her office was four months ago, and that he had failed to notify the department of a change of address.
“He does not appear to be motivated to attend the probation appointments to address his behaviour,” stated Ms Norman, before recommending that magistrates activate the suspended sentence.
Mr. Hague’s solicitor explained to magistrates that his client had moved back in with his father in Pembrokeshire, and had ‘foolishly’ put his head down on the run after becoming extremely fearful of a custodial environment.
Magistrates elected to activate the suspended sentence and sent the defendant to jail for 12 weeks.
