A Pembroke man charged with growing cannabis plants in his loft has been fined in court.

Thirty-seven-year-old Paul High, of Lowless Close, pleaded guilty to a charge of producing four plants of cannabis, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that on June 23, police officers executed a search warrant at a property.

“The defendant made a full admission that the plants were all in his loft. Police found bags of rotting leaves and stalks, and four cannabis plants were recovered.

“Mr. High has similar drugs related matters concerning producing cannabis on his record,” she added.

Defence solicitor Matthew Greenish told the court that it was fair to say that it was not a ‘sophisticated’ set up that his client had deployed.

“Mr. High is a self-employed fisherman by trade and self medicates for his irritable bowel syndrome. He finds it difficult when he is on a fishing boat and his IBS flares up,” he explained.

Magistrates fined the defendant £150 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
