A Pembroke Dock man found himself in court again after admitting cannabis possession.

Thirty-eight-year-old Alvin David Demery, of Old Coronation School, Meyrick Street, pleaded guilty to possessing 0.1 grams of herbal cannabis when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that police officers were speaking to the defendant by his doorstep on March 1, when they could smell cannabis.

“Officers searched the property and recovered a small amount of cannabis,” said Mr. Hussain, who told the court that Mr. Demery was last in court in January of this year for a similar offence.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told magistrates that his client suffered ‘mentally and physically’ and smoked cannabis in an attempt to alleviate his anxiety and depression.

“He is not a well man, and is engaging with the community and drug and alcohol team.

“Mr. Demery lives at premises that police call at on a regular basis, and it is a property that is entirely unsuitable for someone with mental health needs, but hopefully he’ll be moving address soon,” added Mr. Webb.

Magistrates gave Mr. Demery a six-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
