A Newton hearing is set to place in Haverfordwest Magistrates Court in relation to an assault case.

Twenty-two-year-old, Aaron Booth of Bush Street, Pembroke appeared at the Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by beating.

However, he denied some details that were alleged by the prosecution.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones said the crown’s position was that the defendant was involved in a serious allegation between himself and the complainant on July 23 last year.

He alleged that when the complainant was having a bath, the defendant assaulted her by grabbing her legs.

When she got out of the bath, Mr. Booth then bent her arm against her back.

The defendant then forced a pillow over her face which prevented her from breathing, he allegedly followed this up by putting a hand over her mouth.

Mr. Pritchard-Jones further alleged that the complainant ran out of the house, however Mr. Booth then picked her up and brought her back in.

The prosecutor said the aggravating features of this case were the other alleged assaults and the fact that the complainant was forced back into the house against her will.

Magistrates heard the defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge on the basis that he picked her up, but denied committing the other assaults.

As a result, the bench set a Newton hearing to determine the actual version of events of the case. This will take place in court on March 11.
