A Saundersfoot man accused of possessing drugs appeared in court this week to admit the charge.
Thirty-four-year-old Ricky O’Shea, of Pennant Avenue, pleaded guilty to possessing seven grams of herbal cannabis when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates that police executed a search warrant, shortly after 11 am on May 20, at the defendant’s home address.
“Mr. O’Shea was fully co-operative with the police who found a small bag containing seven grams of cannabis under a computer tower in the bedroom.
“The defendant accepted it was his, but said that he wasn’t aware that there was that amount in the bag, and said it was just a leaf and a stalk that was ready for the bin,” explained Mr. Pritchard-Jones, adding that Mr. O’Shea had two previous cautions for drug offences back in 2008 and 2012.
The defendant’s solicitor, Mark Layton, told the court that his client claimed that what was in the bag wasn’t usable.
“He said that they were scraps to be discarded and not smokeable,” he remarked.
Magistrates fined Mr. O’Shea £75 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85, a court charge of £180 and a £20 victim surcharge. They also ordered the destruction of the drugs.
