A motorist who was on holiday in Pembrokeshire and found to be drink-driving has been given a ban after admitting the charge in court.

Twenty-one-year-old Angharad Evans, of Pen Y Grug, Ystalyfera, Neath, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to admit a charge of driving her Mitsubushi Mirage, after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol,

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that Miss Evans was stopped by police in her vehicle on Upper Lamphey Road, Pembroke, on November 24, shortly before 9 pm.

“The police officer on duty saw the vehicle pull over to the side of the road and had concerns about the way the car was being driven and had also received information from the public,” he explained.

Miss Evans was spoken to and the officer could smell intoxicants. A roadside test proved positive, she was arrested and provided a reading of 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at the police station.

Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that Miss Evans and her partner were down in Pembrokeshire for the weekend staying locally in a guest house, and she was stopped on the way back after they’d been out together.

Magistrates disqualified the defendant from driving for 15 months and fined her £120 for the offence.

She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
