A teenage motorist from Pembroke Dock who hit a parked vehicle after driving over the limit has been banned from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle for 12 months.

Eighteen-year-old Loui Murray, of Lavinia Drive, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday to admit a charge of driving his Vauxhall Corsa, on Treowen Road, Pennar, after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that police officers were called to attend reports of a road traffic collision during the early hours of January 27, after Mr. Murray’s car had collided with a stationery vehicle.

A roadside test proved positive and Mr Murray was arrested and taken to the police station where he provided a reading of 43 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that Mr. Murray had driven from work in Pembroke to Haverfordwest that night, where he and his friends had been drinking at a nightclub, when one of his friend’s got into an altercation.

“Mr. Murray had no intention of driving home at the end of the night when he went out, but his friend wanted to leave. It was an error of judgement and he thought he’d be ok to drive as he’d only drunk two to three bottles of WKD.

“He drove and a minor RTC occurred - he was probably about 45 minutes away from sobriety when this incident happened. Mr. Murray has never been in trouble before in his life,” he added.

Magistrates disqualified Mr Murray from driving for 12 months, and fined him £180 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
