Another sporting event for Pembrokeshire has been cancelled for 2021, due to the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing Covid crisis.
After much deliberation, The TenFoot Swim Committee have announced that they are ‘deeply saddened’ to have to announce the cancellation of the 2021 swim events
Due to the ongoing challenges and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, committee members have stated that they feel that they are unable to meet the required levels of safety to successfully host the events, which normally take place at the start of the summer, kicking off with a swim from Tenby to Saundersfoot.
This news is even more poignant, as it would have been the first NHS MonkFoot Swim in recognition of the wonderful work that members of the NHS have undertaken during this Pandemic.
Event’s chairman, Chris Williams commented: “As you know, The TenFoot Committee is made up of volunteers, who raise much needed funds for nominated charities as a not-for-profit group.
“Since its inception in 2017, the events have raised in excess of £65,000 for worthwhile causes and we have prided ourselves on the mantra, of making ‘safety’ our number one priority.
“The safety of our entrants, volunteers, supporters, event partners and sponsors must come first. We all have a duty to keep each other safe.
“Whilst we are unable to support this year’s nominated charities - Motor Neurone Disease Association; Guide Dogs for the Blind Association; and Get The Boys a Lift; they will remain our focus for 2022, when we will return, bigger and better!
“Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in 2022,” he continued.
Committee members would like to thank everyone linked to the events for their continued support, without which, they would not take place and would not be the success they have become.
Following the announcement, entrants will be contacted, and arrangements made to refund 100 per cent of their entrance fee.
This will also include an offer for paid entrants and NHS participants to secure a place for the 2022 events (dates to follow).
Further details surrounding this offer will be communicated via The TenFoot Swim web site and Facebook page, when the 2022 event goes live later this year.
