Just under 100 athletes took to Carew Business Park on Easter Saturday to take part in the Carew Airfield Junior Duathlon which was being held for the second successive year.
The event was once again sponsored by Harbour Wealth, Tenby which allowed all athletes to receive a gym bag and a finishers’ medal and tshirt for their efforts on the day.
For many, it was their first taste of multi-discipline racing and for some, it was a return to racing and likely the start on another season.
It was a great warm up for lots of athletes who are about to start competing in the Welsh Tri Stars series which is organised by Welsh Triathlon.
There were five races altogether, kicking off with a fun Duathlon, followed by TriStart (age 8), TriStars 1 (9-10), TriStars 2 (11-12) and finishing off with TriStars 3 (13-14). The distances increased for each age group, making it more challenging for the athletes. The biggest challenge of the day was the sun, which was blazing down on the athletes, making it extremely tough to run and cycle!
The day was organised by Just Tri Junior Triathlon Club who train on a weekly basis in Tenby. If your child is interested in joining and giving it a go, please see the clubs Facebook group for further details.
A big thank you to all parents and marshals for giving up their time to assist on the day.
The next event organised by Just Tri will be the Pembroke Junior Triathlon which is being held at Pembroke Leisure Centre on Sunday, July 21.
