The final Tennis Pembrokeshire League tournament of the year was held in Haverfordwest last weekend, and luckily the weather held just long enough to complete all the matches.
The competition for seven to 16-year-olds was between Tenby, Pembroke and Haverfordwest Tennis Clubs and was a thoroughly enjoyable morning with some fabulous and entertaining tennis as well as several hard and intense battles to watch.
Tournament organiser, Alison Lewis said: “The tournament has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and is a great introduction for the younger players to begin their competitive tennis, as well as a place for old rivals to meet once again. It was really lovely to see some new faces play competitively for the first time and gain in confidence as the day progressed and the standard of some of the older players was quite exceptional. A really good day and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! I’d like to thank everyone for supporting these tournaments and a special thanks to all who helped umpire matches. See you all next year!”
Tenby Tennis Club won the Mini Orange category for the first time, which was a terrific achievement, and played excellent tennis throughout the tournament in all the age categories.
“The results don’t tell the story of how close many of the matches were - we are very proud of all the players from Tenby,” said Yan Morris, senior coach at the club. “They have progressed enormously in their tennis abilities and were a credit to Tenby Tennis Club in both their standard of play and their sportsmanship. Well done.”

The overall results were:
