The sailing season is almost upon us. First race is tomorrow (Saturday) at 5 pm, new and old sailors welcome to come and join in the racing alike. The club has a number of Laser dinghies that a perfect for people who don’t own their own boat, but want to join in the racing. Racing continues every Sturday until September at 5 pm and every Tuesday at 7 pm from May onwards.
COMMODORE’S QUIZ
Yet another round of the Commodore’s Quiz was played last Saturday evening, the winners on the night with 56 points being the Dashers. All points will carry over to the final in November.
Taking the lead at the moment are the Cola Clan, closely followed by the Dashers, Losers, Four Amigos, Who Knows, Just Warming Up, The Lone Dogs, The Roger Moore’s, The Virgins and finally This Way Up. But a very small margin of points separate the top five, so there is still all to play for.
It is not too late to join in the league as there is a long way to go until November and not all teams can make all quizzes, so plenty of time to catch up. Teams of up to six people is £5, or if you feel you can go it alone, it is £1 per person. The next quiz is on the Saturday, April 28.
Juniors
If anyone missed to two registration evenings but would like to sail, just turn up on Wednesday at 5 pm or phone Blake on 07717842713, email [email protected].
The first training session is Wednesday, April 4. Please turn up by 5 pm, planning to get on the water by 5.45 pm. All sessions are weather permitting, but there will always be sessions onshore in their place.
Off the water around 7.15 pm, with youngsters to have finished putting boats away by 7.45. BBQ food available after sailing, so parents invited to come along and join in. We aim to make it a good family occasion.
There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups. It will be possible to work towards gaining Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme. There will also be an opportunity to work towards Power Boat 1 and 2 certificates.
Juniors will need to be members of the club (£15 or £10 if part of a family). A payment of £45 will cover the whole six-month season until the end of September. This will include an initial junior logbook. For those who want a first try, it will be £10 for a month. You do not need to own a boat. The club has 29 dinghies for members use, including Optimists, Teras, Toppers, Fevas, Lasers etc.
Those juniors with stage three and above will be encouraged to join the racing group when weather conditions are suitable. A series of races will be held up to the end of June, with a couple of trophies for the winners. There will be a weekend of race training and racing on June 23 and 24. We hope that most of our more experienced youngsters will take part.
