The sailing season is almost upon us, only two weeks left now before the racing starts again. First race is Saturday, March 31, at 5 pm, new and old sailors welcome to come and join in the racing alike. The club has a number of Laser dinghies that are perfect for people who don’t own their own boat, but want to join in the racing. Racing continues every Saturday until September at 5 pm and every Tuesday at 7 pm from May onwards.
Juniors
With the new season coming up fast we look forward to welcoming youngsters joining in our Wednesday evening sailing nights. We had the first registration session last Wednesday. However, there is another opportunity to register next Wednesday, March 28, from 6 pm, at the Sailing Club in Tenby harbour.
Although we hope most of our present young members will continue to attend, we can cater for a limited number of newcomers each month, but first come first served.
Minimum age eight years, but older children welcome. Parent/guardians required to countersign entry forms. If there is a problem turning up on Wednesday or for any further information, then phone Blake on 07717842713 or email [email protected].
Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday, April 4. Please turn up by 5 pm, planning to get on the water by 5.45 pm. All sessions are weather permitting, but there will always be sessions onshore in their place.
Off the water around 7.15 pm, with youngsters to have finished putting boats away by 7.45. BBQ food available after sailing, so parents invited to come along and join in. We aim to make it a good family occasion.
There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups. It will be possible to work towards gaining Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme. There will also be an opportunity to work towards Power Boat 1 and 2 certificates.
Juniors will need to be members of the club (£15 or £10 if part of a family). A payment of £45 will cover the whole six-month season until the end of September. This will include an initial junior logbook. For those who want a first try, it will be £10 for a month. You do not need to own a boat. The club has 29 dinghies for members use, including Optimists, Teras, Toppers, Fevas, Lasers etc.
Those juniors with stage three and above will be encouraged to join the racing group when weather conditions are suitable. A series of races will be held up to the end of June, with a couple of trophies for the winners. There will be a weekend of race training and racing on June 23 and 24. We hope that most of our more experienced youngsters will take part.

Food will be served at the club every night when there is sailing on, then as the season progresses the gap between will decrease until we are open full-time offering a delicious menu of locally sourced fare, with all dietary needs taken care of.
The commodore’s monthly quiz/league and raffle has kicked off. It is on the last Saturday every month (unless a holiday), so if you feel you are the brains of Britain and would like to challenge for the cup, get a team together and come down the club. It is never too late to join in the league as all points accumulate until the grand final in November.
The cost of entry is £5 for a team of up to six people or £1 per player if you want to go it alone. Not everyone can make every month, so there is plenty of time to catch up. Remember it’s all for charity.
Date for the next commodore’s quiz is Saturday, March 24.
