Some of Tenby’s best swimmers were in action last week at the Swim Wales summer nationals.
Dan Davies, Arabella Haley, Owen Thomas, Emily Dilks and Gwen Dodd were all in action.
Dan was coming back into form - but his main aim is the youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa in five weeks time - nevertheless he still claimed plenty of medals, golds in the 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and also two more in the 200m freestyle and medley relays; there was also a silver in the 100m backstroke.
Arabella also had a successful meet - she won all the backstroke events - 50m, 100m and 200m and that puts her in the top 20 in Britain for her 14-year-old age group. She was also part of two successful relay teams, claiming gold in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the medley relay.
Owen Thomas, after a fantastic performance at the Long Course Weekend Swim - where he was the first swimmer to complete the one lap race - showed some good form, swimming personal bests in the 200m and 400m freestyle events, but the highlight was breaking 28 seconds in the 50m freestyle and swimming under one minute in the 100m race - a great effort.
Emily Dilks did not disappoint in her butterfly events - she swam personal bests in both the 50m and 100m races - demonstrating some excellent technique throughout.
It was nice to see Gwen Dodd back in action, after a few weeks out of training with a personal injury. She took part in the 200m and 50m backstroke events where she swam very close to her best.
Both Emily and Gwen were also part of the Pembrokeshire relay squads, but just missed out on the medals.
Well done to all the swimmers who competed and a big thank you must go to the coaches - Craig Nelson (head coach), Sam Jones (assistant coach), Phill Thomas (county chairman) and all the other volunteers who helped out.
