What a great weekend again! Swimathon: Tenby Swimming Pool - Paul Slack 5km, Ryan Semper 5km, Adrian Wilson 2.5km, Gareth Rees 2.5km, Teaghan Waring 1.5km, Stephanie Waring 3km with Eddie Waring and dad Gary 2km. Swansea Swimming Pool - Rhianydd Gardiner, Emma Reed and Richard Gardiner all swimmming 5km in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Charity
Majorca Sportive: Katherine Devonald Brace and Tim Brace completing a fantastic total of 232 km (145 miles!) in the Serrade Tramuntana Mountains along with 8,000 riders. Kath said: “There was lots of climbs and descending was pretty hairy!”
Marbella Ironman 70.3: Claire Stubbs in six hours, just three minutes behind hubby Steve in five hours 56. The swim was one lap (1.2 miles) in sea off Levante Beach of Puerto Banus. The 56-mile bike starts in the famous Gold Mile before crossing through the city of Marbella and rising the Ojén Port through this picturesque location and conquering the legendary ‘caracolillos.’ Then through Monda, Coín and Cartama before returning to Transition in Puerto Banús where a half marathon is run along Puerto Banus Promenade.
Preseli Angel Sportive: Richard Day and Hayden Johns took on the 78-mile course taking them through the varied terrain of spectacular coastal and mountain roads. Starting and finishing at Newport Pembs. Boat Club. Fifty-five miles in at Glandwr, the cyclists came upon Team Day! Mum Lisa, Sophie, Chloe, Izzy amd Will were a very welcome sight with their ‘feed station’ heaving with goodies amd their smiling faces cheered riders up as they rode for home - so I am told by the very grateful organisers of this event.
ABP Newport Wales Marathon: This inaugural flat and fast marathon took place on Sunday with over 6,000 runners taking to the streets, starting and finishing at the University of South Wales, running over the Newport Bridge east towards Major through Redwick back to the city centre along the River Usk. Emil Chwistek in 3 hrs 11 mins, Jamie Silvester 3 hrs 37, Will Lewis 3 hrs 40, Pete Williams 3 hrs 52, Mandy Draper 3 hrs 59, Jo Brace 4 hrs 9, Mike Smith 4 hrs 27, Ceire Merrison 4 hrs 42, Andrea Craig 5 hrs 2 and Bethan Osborne 6 hrs 30. Many congratulations also to Aces friend Denise Cousins in also completing the marathon.
‘Nippy Dip’: This Sunday, we will be raising money for breast cancer with a ‘Nippy Dip’ in the sea at 4 pm on North Beach - come along for a bit of fun!
Club rides: All rides will leave Tenby Leisure Centre car park at 6.30 pm from now on. We have three groups - with a sweeper led social group with the intent that no-one gets left behind and all get a ride to suit their abilities. Front lights, rear lights and helmets a must.
Tuesday, May 8, Route 1: (Pembroke loop) Lydstep, Hodgeston, Lamphey, Lower Lamphey Road, Pembroke Castle, Upper Lamphey Road, Lamphey, Hodgeston, Jameston, Lydstep, Tenby (approximately 21.5 miles). Sweepers Gareth Rees and Hayden John.
Thursday, May 10, Route 15: (Sageston and Templeton) Tenby, Heywood Lane, Serpentine Road, Narberth Road, Devonshire Drive, turn right at Heatherton, Sageston, Old Redberth Road, over A477 to East Williamston, half-way along Temple Bar Road, turn left off heading towards Reynalton, turn right, then right again to Templeton, right at Boars Head then left into Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty, Pentlepoir, Tenby (approximately 25 miles). Sweepers Huw Benbow and Julie Slack.
