Saturday saw the final races of the Late season take place on a grey and wet afternoon. Only four boats turned up to race today as most people were put off by the weather!

Even though the race was due to start at 16.30, at 16.25 the four crews were still sat around chatting and having a nice time in the dinghy park, so the OOD decided to play a little game. The five minute countdown began.

Nobody moved. Only when the four minute flag went up did the panic appear on the faces of the sailors as they scrambled to get their boats into the water and out of the harbour.

As the boats made it out through the harbour entrance, the OOD had the last laugh as he raised the postpone flag, postponing the start to give the boats a few minutes to get their bearings.

When the boats set off there a F2-3 breeze that soon dropped off to a gentle puff within 15 minutes of the race starting. Once the race had actually started there was an early capsize from Leon as the boats set off on the Amroth-Monkstone-Harbour course, however he righted it gracefully. In the end it didn’t matter, because a rain shower later on soaked everyone!

The wind was swirling around the harbour mark which meant the Feva and the Topper struggled to cross the line on the first lap, however they got around to complete a second lap whilst the RS100 and the Laser Radial did three laps.

Overall, Keith in the Laser Radial came first, Ed in the RS100 came second and Sam and Iolo in the Feva came third. The second race that was supposed to be held was cancelled because the Topper and the Feva had had enough for one day. Thanks as ever go to James, Julie and Harry on OOD duty and to Steve C and Steve H on rescue cover.

For the last two years, the Wisemans Bridge Rowing Club have worked with a group called Tenderfoot. Tenderfoot is a disabled group who love to participate in sports of all kind, including rowing.

On Friday the Tenderfoot rowers has their first session in a Celtic Longboat, and they loved it! It has been a team effort by the rowers to make this happen but Simon, Jim and Caroline are owed particular thanks as they have put in so much hard work. We hope the Tenderfoot rowers will be back soon to enjoy more sea rowing!

On Saturday, several members of the sailing and rowing clubs including myself took part in Saundersfoot Triathlon. Despite the early start and the lashing rain, great fun was had by all who competed.

At times it was like cycling through a hurricane with the rain in your eyes and the side wind, but all the same it was very enjoyable! Lloyd was the fastest from SSC and Brent was the quickest from WBRC. Well done to all who competed!

On Saturday Bart’s Bash returns to SSC! This a charity event set up in remembrance of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson who lost his life whilst sailing in 2013.

All money raised goes to the Andrew Simpson Foundation which helps get disabled adults and children into sailing so they can join in all the fun! This has been a brilliant event for the last few years so let’s make it another great event this year! The rowers have been practising at Aberporth race day and are planning to send a few boats over to race alongside the sailing boats. Everyone can sign up using the link in the Facebook event.

There is no club racing next week but we have got Bart’s Bash which starts at 10.30 am.

Get your fancy dress ready and I’ll see you on the water!
