After a chilly start on Sunday, five boats took to the water for the final race of the season. Ed in his RS 100 took an early lead on the water, followed closely by Rosie and Lloyd in Laser Radials. After a slow run up to the Pendine buoy, the pace increased with a close reach over to the Monkstone buoy. Ed then increased upon his early lead on the beat towards the harbour, whilst Rosie remained in second place. Behind her, Lloyd and Thomas battled it out for third place around the Monkstone buoy. After the first lap, Ed remained in first, with Rosie in second, Thomas in third ahead of Lloyd in fourth, with Steve and Harry in the RS Vision bringing up the rear in fifth. The gentle breeze continued to push the boats around for another lap, in which Lloyd pulled back ahead of Thomas to secure third place behind Rosie in second and Ed in first. A second race had been on the cards, but the chilly, calm conditions took their toll on the sailors’ enthusiasm and everyone headed back in for the eagerly-anticipated AGM. Thanks as ever to the duty crew on and off the water; this week Dave, Bryony, James, John and Keith.
The 68th AGM started well with baked spuds with beans and cake with custard, then tailed off into the usual AGM-type business. The club is pleased to welcome aboard the first lady Commodore, Nina Mammatt, who is taking over the helm from Martin Andrews. We would also like to welcome the new social secretary Nikki Nelson, treasurer Jim Nettleship and sailing secretary Keith Jones whilst giving huge thanks to those stepping down from the committee for all their hard work.
Last Friday, a small crowd from the rowing club were pleased to attend the Pembrokeshire Sports Awards to represent Simon Collings in the final of the club organiser of the year category. From 140 applicants, Simon came in the top three and we congratulate him for all his hard work with the rowing club over the years.
The Frostbite series continues... next year! Sailing may be finished for this year, but some club activities and social events will continue through the winter and into the spring. See you soon!
