Gorseinon 26 pts Whitland 31
Whitland notched up only their fifth win of the season last week, but the victory was probably their best so far.
And to lower the colours of their opponents on their own ground probably made it all the more sweeter for the impressive Borderers.
Travelling to Gorseinon for a midweek encounter, the green and whites obviously started as underdogs, lying five places below their hosts and having already lost to them in the reverse clash at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn earlier in the season.
But they quickly shook off that tag as, showing no ill-effects from their journey, they were quickly out of the traps, rocking Gorseinon with a 14-point burst in the opening 10 minutes.
Fly-half Nico Setaro got the scoreboard ticking with the first try, which he converted himself, and he also added the extras to a second which soon followed from their speedy winger Sean Coles.
Gorseinon did hit back with a couple of scores of their own to narrow the deficit to just two points, but by half-time it was stretched again to seven as Coles bagged his second try, which this time went unconverted.
The second half continued to be an entertaining affair as both sides threw the ball about, with scores coming at regular intervals, Whitland adding to their tally courtesy of two well-struck penalties from the boot of Setaro and a hat-trick try from Coles.
Gorseinon’s points came via tries from number eight Sean Heycock, centres Simon Stoneham and Andrew Steele and flanker Kieran Craig. Fullback Rhodri Phelps converted three of them.
But it was not enough to deny Whitland victory, as well as a bonus point for good measure, and it was a happy Borderers who made the journey back west.
