This was a be a true Pembrokeshire derby played in great spirit throughout.
It was very tight first half with Narberth trying to make inroads into Tenby’s brick wall defence which stood firm in the first quarter.
Tenby finally had ball in hand, working through some good phases led to an infringement by Narberth giving away a penalty just inside their half. Tenby’s outside half Harry Rossiter stepped up to knock over a difficult penalty goal, 3-0 to Tenby.
From the restart some great work by the Tenby pack giving the backs great front foot ball which again led to Narberth giving away another penalty which Rossiter again goaled, 6-0 to Tenby.
But with the first half coming to a close Narberth did manage to score a try out wide from a good move from the back of the scrum, a very difficult conversion into the wind was missed by the Narberth 10, leaving the score 6-5 to Tenby at half time.
With the wind in their face Tenby knew they would be up against a barrage of Narberth attacks again some outstanding defence and last ditch tackles kept them at bay. Being forced to keep ball in hand due to the wind, the Tenby youngsters started to play some good attacking rugby, with forwards and backs working well together.
With time nearly up on the clock Narberth managed to gain a penalty, which turned out to be the last kick of the game.
The Narberth 10 bravely stepped up to take the difficult shot at goal, but to the delight of the Tenby team it just missed the uprights. The score 6-5 to Tenby and the referee blew the final whistle. A great game played with superb skill levels, commitment and sportsmanship by both sets of players.
The win meant the Tenby youngsters would finish at least second place in the league, a fantastic achievement by all involved, players, family, management and coaches.
First game back in the new year couldn’t be any more difficult with a cup match against Crymych at home on January 5.
