After winning the last five games this was going to be a test of character for the Tenby side.
From an early Tenby knock on and Whitland scrum, pressure was being applied by the visitors and we did begin to think that this could be a torrid game at Home.
However after good Tenby tackling the ball was turned over and the home side managed to make the yards again resulting in a 5 metre scrum. Tenby forwards won the ball and from quick scrum half ball by Cameron Broadhurst, Harry Rossiter offloaded to Jack Gooding who powered over for the first try, converted by Harry Rossiter to make it 7-0.
From the restart Tenby came back again and although Whitland were showing promise with good tackling it was being matched by Lucas Probert whose immense tackle set up the ball for a great run by Joe Owen who selflessly offloaded to Jack Brown for another great try, and again impressively converted by Rossiter.
At this stage Parsley Blue who was having an excellent game was side lined with a knee injury.
Whitland who were not giving up then kept the home side pinned in their own half and you had the feeling that this may be a crucial part of the game, but after soaking up the pressure, again Tenby broke through and with some slick ball handling orchestrated by the vision of Harry Rossiter at no 10, the result was Jake Roberts crossing the Whitland line for another try, duly converted just before half time to make it 21-0.
Dylan Davies brought on as sub after half time crossed the Whitland line after good interplay by the forwards for another try for the home side, but the conversion hit the post.
Captain Will Swales was leading by example and the younger players in the team were responding.
Matt Busby, Rhys Grigg and Callum Earland in the scrum were keeping the pressure on Whitland up front and this was enabling the backs to break through time and time again.
The field kicking and vision by Rossiter was exposing Whitland and this was controlling the game for Tenby.
However to their credit Whitland did not give up and were rewarded by scoring a great try on the far side, this was added to by a conversion to make it 26-7.
The Seasiders again immediately responded with a scintillating run and solitary try by Joseph Owen, followed by another home try by Harry Rossiter who also made a successful conversion.
The subs were being brought on at this stage and Tenby were still able to pile on the pressure and the final nail was administered by Cameron Broadhurst scoring yet another impressive try, to leave the final score 45-7 to the Seasiders.
Tenby’s youth team players, Ben Pugh and Max Brindley were selected to play for Tenby United’s 1st XV away to Llanelli Wanderers. Congratulations lads, we’re delighted that our young talented men are starting to progress through to the 1st XV squad.
