After a two-week break from playing due to weather conditions, Tenby Under 9s played a home game against Milford on Sunday and were excited to get back on the pitch.

Having played Milford on a few occasions already this seasons, both teams were aware of each other’s strengths and this led to a hard fought game.

Milford came out firing from the first whistle and applied continued pressure to the Tenby line. A passage of great passing saw them go over for the opening try of the game.

Tenby quickly had to regroup and mount some pressure of their own. Some fantastic tackles by the likes of Carter, Louie and Rhys had the Seasiders gain a turnover close to the Milford line and after some fast hands to get the ball out wide, Owen was able to score to equal the try count.

Tenby’s second try came quickly after the restart, with some lovely running by Connor putting him across the line and having the score stand at 2-1 at the first break in the game.

When the game restarted, both teams came out determined to play the game at a quick pace. A missed pass by Tenby saw Milford intercept and only a fantastic tackle by Carter near the Tenby line stopped a try from being scored.

Momentum now with Milford, they continued to push forward, which eventually saw them cross the line to equalise the score.

What followed was a passage of play which saw a lot of missed passes by both teams and led to a lot of frustrated players. But Tenby were persistent in fighting for territory and kept Milford pinned down by their own line and this enabled Dylan to cross the line for the Seasiders for a hard-worked team try.

Tenby continued with the pressure, but the ball on too many occasions wasn’t going to hand and they weren’t making it easy on themselves.

Some advice from the coaches on the touchline soon refocused Tenby and a period of pressure saw Connor cross the line in the corner to have the score at 4-2 at the next break in play.

At the start of the final period, Milford came out quickly to score in the first phase of play and followed it up in quick succession with a second try to equalise the score again.

This called for Tenby to start putting in some big defensive tackles to stop a Milford team gaining in confidence.

Tenby were able to keep play down in Milford’s half and some great teamwork was repaid with Connor crossing the try line to edge Tenby in front once more.

Tenby were more than aware that Milford were strong and likely to respond quickly, so dug deep and held their defensive line and were rewarded with a well-deserved try by Jack.

In the dying seconds of the game, Tenby helped seal the win when a mis-timed pass by Milford was intercepted by Connor who ran the length of the pitch to score.

Final score was 7-4 to Tenby. Captain for the day was Owen. Due to the immense team effort, no individual man of the match was awarded on this occasion.
