Excited after Wales’ GrandSlam win the previous day, Tenby Under 7s travelled to Haverfordwest on Sunday, eager to please the spectators.

The dry weather went in Tenby’s favour, allowing them to show off some good running rugby. It was also visible to all watching that the team’s passing has come on immensely in recent weeks.

The teams played three lots of 10 minutes, with Tenby dominating the first section by scoring five tries.

The second and third sections did not disappoint, with the team working excellently together, both in attack and defence.

Tenby came out the winners, scoring 11 tries to Haverfordwest’s 3. A real pleasure to watch!

Man of the match went to Leo for his excellent tagging and three impressive tries.

Team: Caitlyn Lewis, Dylan Drewett, Jevan Guymer, Jude Christen, Craig Roberts, Leo Werner, Ethan Brace, Bradley Rossiter.

Tries - Ethan (5), Leo (3), Jude (2), Jevan.

Under 11s

Last Sunday, Tenby Under 11s had a home game against a strong Narberth side. From the first whistle, both teams came out firing.

The first 10 minutes saw waves of Tenby attack. The backs ran some lovely lines and forwards worked extremely hard to retain the ball. But Narberth defence was strong and held the seasiders’ attack back.

As the first half came to an end, both teams were presented with chances to apply the pressure, but it would be Narberth who were to turn the pressure into points, first crashing over the line just before the half-time whistle. After converting their try, the score at the break stood at 7-0 to the away team.

The second half started as the first had, with both teams coming out with a fire in their belly, throwing everything at the opposition. Narberth were first to push Tenby back onto their own line, but Tenby’s forwards were immense and determined to stop anything crossing their try line.

Momentum soon swung back in favour of the seasiders and opportunities to push forward were snapped up by the Tenby forwards. Tenby were slowly able to piece some good phases together and the backs were able to have some runs of their own.

Narberth defence was strong, but Tenby were to finally break through with a well deserved try for Liam on his debut for the seasiders. His speed was too much for Narberth and he touched down in the corner. The try was converted and the score was brought to 7-7.

With the minutes counting down, Tenby were determined to build on the score and push for another. The forwards continued to work hard to retain possession. The continued pressure from Tenby saw Narberth being drawn in to defend which eventually saw Connor spot some space out wide and use his pace to cross for Tenby’s second and convert to have the game end with the seasiders claiming a well earned win, 14-7.

Captain for the morning was Sophie and man of the match was Rhys for his relentless tackling.

Under 12s

After having last week’s game cancelled, Tenby Under 12s were very fortunate to be playing on the hallowed turf of Heywood Lane on Sunday and in front of a near capacity crowd (!), with both the players and spectators still buzzing from the Welsh Grand Slam victory the day before! We were all hoping that the squad would draw on that inspiration as they faced the old foe of Haverfordwest RFC!

The game began with Haverfordwest gathering possession and forcing the Seasiders to batten down the defensive hatches for about 20 phases of play! It was a fabulous start to see some wonderful attacking play by the visitors and the Tenby lads admirably soaking up the pressure. With some fierce tackling and great passing on display, it looked set to be a top-notch competitive game.

Unfortunately, this thought was a little premature and once Haverfordwest finally capitalised on their strong passing and looping runs to score their first try, they went on to dominate the vast majority of the game.

To their credit, the Seasiders didn’t lose their determination and kept fighting and working hard throughout the match. There were some wonderful individual performances from many of the home players, but unfortunately too many handling errors and lots of hesitation at the rucks and mauls gave Haverfordwest too many opportunities to steal possession. With a very well-drilled and large squad of players (lots of fresh legs!), the visitors were able to keep pushing hard and despite some strong defensive tackling, they were able to find the chinks in the armour and punch through to repeatedly find the try line.

What promised to be a great competitive game subsequently became a good indicator of what the home team needed to work on in training over the next few weeks to get back to their sharper and more confident best! Heads up boys and let’s learn from this match to get our ‘groove’ back!!

The squad were Cemlyn; Rhys S; Rhys E; Eddie; Tom Y;Tom W; Tom B; Nathan; George; Rhydian; Iwan; Deri; Ieuan; Sonny; Paddy; Fin; Dan and Keaton.
