Tenby Swifts Under 11s

Last Sunday Tenby Under 11s were home to St. Clears. From the first whistle it was clear the game was going to be a fierce battle up front with the forwards on both teams creating turnovers and possession swapping hands a number of times before St. Clears eventually crossed the line for the first try of the game.

After a missed conversion the game stood at 0-5 to the away team. The next try also was to be scored by St Clears. Tenby were putting in some crunching tackles in an effort to contain the wave of attack by the travelling team but St Clears speed at the ruck would provide fast ball out to their backs and create space out wide to score again.

This try was converted and the score now stood at 0-12. Tenby were determined to keep pushing forward and from the restart a powerful run by Sophie bought play back up on to the St. Clears line. Tenby were awarded a scrum and from this position moved the ball along the line, creating space out wide and eventually saw Louie loop around to score in the corner. The try was converted by Rowan and the seasiders reduced the gap to 7-12.

St. Clears were to hit back straight away and some fantastic speed by their winger saw them dart down the touchline to cross for their third try of the morning. Score was now 7-19 to St Clears.

A strong run by Lewis up the middle of the field saw the seasiders try and swing momentum back their way but a few missed time passes saw possession back in the hands of St Clears and allow them to cross for their forth try. Score at half time stood at 7-26 to St Clears.

Tenby came out determined second half. St. Clears were having to put in some big tackles but were unable to stop the mounting pressure from the seasiders and Tenby eventually were able to break through the defensive line and put Alfie over in the corner. Score now stood at 14-26. St Clears were to reply to this with a try straight from the restart with a runaway individual effort from their winger once again. Try was converted and score was now 14-33.

Tenby during the next 10 mins were to pull together as a team. Slowly they started to gain some vital territory and with great commitment in the rucks by the likes of Owen, Jayden, Jack and Rhys saw possession stay with the seasiders and create a platform for the backs to do what they do best and run with the ball, creating the space for Alfie to cross for two further tries and get his hat trick. Both tries were converted by Rowan and the seasiders had clawed themselves right back into the game at 28-33. But it was to be St. Clears in the dying minutes of the game who would finish with their sixth try and have the game finish at 28-40.

Man of the match was awarded to Jayden for his commitment in the rucks.
