The Quins never really recovered after conceding three converted tries in the opening half hour, but fought back bravely to earn themselves two bonus points.

The visitors went straight on the offensive and only some stern defence by the Quins kept them out.

After five minutes outside half Gwion Phillips pushed his penalty attempt wide to send out a warning to the Quins as they continued to fight hard to keep their line intact.

But a try each for right wing Hefin Ebenezer and centre Rhyddian Jones both converted by Gwion Phillips in the space of five minutes put the visitors in a commanding position and when Tregaron second row Dorian Jones forced his way over for his sides third try which was converted by Gwion Phillips their looked no way back for the Quins.

But they fought back, when a well struck line kick from outside half Aaron James put the Quins in a strong position and even without their first choice props, managed to get some momentum going with a try for No 8 Stefan Hallward, this was converted by Aaron James.

Blake Hughes making his debut, playing out of position at scrum half, then sprinted away from 35 yards to touchdown after some neat footwork by his fellow youth player full back Will Nicot, who was also making his debut had set him free.

James converted to pull the score back to 14-21, and the Quins now were back in the match but unfortunately the visiting full back Llion Jones crossed with the last move of the half which was converted once again by Phillips to send his side 14 - 28 up at the break with a try bonus point also firmly in the bag.

The Quins were first on the scoreboard after the break when centre and Captain Thomas Doyle finished off a fine move which was epitomised by a powerful run by his fellow centre Geriant Powell who is quietly becoming quite a force in the Quins midfield. James missed the conversion.

The visitors on a rare excursion to Quins territory opted for three points with a Phillips penalty when some thought they might have kicked for the corner.

With five minutes left the Quins scored their fourth try when left wing Mohammed Shabat-Ali with some skilful footwork created space for Powell, and the young centre needed no second invitatation as he burst through two would be tacklers and showing no shortage of pace scored close to the posts for his second try in three games.

James added his third conversion, and his side were now on top but with time against them they just failed to grab one more score. The final score was Pembroke Dock Quins 26 pts.

Tregaron 31

The Quins with suspensions, HIA injuries, unavailability and some young inexperienced players put up a more than creditable performance, and in Will Nicot, Mohammad Shabat-Ali, Aaron James, Blake Hughes and Geriant Powell could well have an exciting back division next season.
