Pembroke Dock Quins 31 pts. St. Davids 5
The Quins came out on top in this basement clash at Bierspool, outscoring the Saints by five tries to one to move up to seventh in the table.
As the game kicked off, the heavens opened, sending spectators racing for cover.
The hosts, however, did not take long to open the scoring when number eight Kevin Bratcher powered his way along the touchline with a fine 40-yard run to touch down in the corner, although outside-half Ben Hathaway missed the difficult conversion.
On 15 minutes, the Quins struck again when young prop Jack Davies finished off a fine move, touching down under the sticks. Hathaway converted this time to give the Quins a 12-point cushion.
The Quins’ pressure was now becoming relentless and it was no surprise when another strong run from Bratcher set up a try for right wing Dan Goodridge, who had to work hard to get to the line, showing some good footwork in the process.Hathaway converted.
As the half drew to a close, young flanker Kyle Hamer scored close to the posts to enable Hathaway to pop the conversion over to give the Quins a 26-0 lead at the break.
With the bonus point now in the bag, it seemed it was just a question of how many points the Quins were going to rattle up, and they got off to a perfect start when Bratcher, just as he had done at the beginning of the first half, powered over the Saints line for the Quins’ fifth try.
Hathaway missed the conversion from wide out, but everything seemed to be going the Quins’ way, until they started to give away an extraodinary amount of penalties, and in the end the St. Davids scrum-half Gabe York, on his debut, crossed for an unconverted try to complete the scoring.
