The Quins just missed out in a match they really should have won, but the luck once again deserted them which was a blow to this young and inexperienced side.

It was the visitors who started the brighter, but the Quins defence held out once again with some fearless tackling in the opening 10 minutes which kept their line intact.

The rest of the half however belonged to the Quins, the pressure however was starting to tell on the visitors and it was no surprise when prop Joe Gray powered his way over in unstoppable fashion after 22 minutes to give his team the lead and celebrate his birthday at the same time.

Fullback Rhys Bradney missed the conversion.

The Quins at this stage were in total command, but they failed to take their chances on at least three occasions which surely would have put the visitors out of the game.

They did manage to add another unconverted try through the hard working flanker Ollie Parsons who was injured in the process, which did not help the Quins cause.

But with a 10-0 lead and looking comfortable, disaster struck for the young Quins side when the visitors broke out of defence in the final minute of the half and centre Chris Wilkins touched down in the corner. Fullback Gethin Jones missed the difficult conversion.

The visitors as they had done in the first half started the brighter after the break, but this time they made the Quins pay when flanker Dewi Jones crossed under the Quins posts.

Jones converted and suddenly Tregaron were in front, and it was time now for them to turn the screw but the Quins’ defence held admirably once again, with replacement prop Dean Wilcox making a huge difference soldering on even with a damaged thumb which he did with his first tackle.

At this stage with all the pressure the visitors put on, the Quins’ defence was sure to crack, but it didn’t which kept them in the game and with 10 minutes to go the hosts looked like scoring when they outflanked the Tregaron defence only to be pulled back for what seemed a very dubious forward pass.

The Tregaron defence held out during the closing stages to give them victory in a close encounter.

The young Quins team were disappointed at the manner of the defeat, it was simply about taking the chances which they created, which will surely come once they get more experience.
