Dunvant 48 - Tenby United 10: A very depleted FBM sponsored Tenby United side travelled to Dunvant with many regular players missing due to them being correctly selected for the Youth side who were playing at nearby Gowerton against Pentyrch in the semi-final of the WRU Youth Bowl…as well as losing several players up in Edinburgh on a stag weekend added to by the usual four or five players injured.
So it was always going to be a tough ask against a well-established First Division side who ended the day in third position in the league, with four less games played than top team Felinfoel.
Going behind early on to a well-worked try by flanker Ben Davies, Tenby fought gallantly in the first half, going in at the break 24-10 down, with centre Sam Crowley once and outside-half Adam Williams-Parry crossing the whitewash for two tries for Dunvant.
For Tenby, outside-half Lloyd Thomas got a trio of scores with an early penalty and converting his try in the 20th minute after dummying through from the 22 and side-stepping the fullback to go under the posts for a lovely individual score.
With four tries in the first half, Dunvant repeated the scoring feat in the second half, with fullback Sam Hawkes going over twice and wing Matt Richards and lively scrum-half Glen Williams completing the scoring. Adam Williams-Parry also contributed to the total by slotting four conversions.
Against a defiant and determined Tenby side who had played their hearts out for the full 80 minutes, after the match Dunvant were full of praise for the United simply for fulfilling the fixture.
Comments from the coaching staff included the following - nothing, but praise for the attitude and commitment. It’s a tough ask for a pack to play away on a big pitch, let alone 80 minutes against a well-drilled eight. Jason Ronowitz was outstanding as captain and led from the front and along with debutant Gwilym Owens must have put in 50-plus tackles.
Stand-out players - forwards Gwilym Owens, Jason Ronowitz, Jack Broadhurst along with centres, Moritz Neumann, Billy Truman (the latter being awarded man of match).
With a home game on Saturday against Gorseinon - a side three positions above Tenby in the league - and the bulk of the regulars available for selection, it will give the coaching group a challenging task.
Team: Ethan Morgan, Dan Allen, Rob Luly, Huw Evans, Tom Barrass, Gwilym Owens, Jason Ronowitz (capt), Jack Broadhurst, Dan Thomas, Lloyd Thomas, Mark Hamilton (Nathan Owen), Moritz Neumann, Billy Truman, Ryan Hill, Jordan Asparassa.
