It is several years since Tenby faced Garnant Park in the Dyfed League. The visitors’ club is a few miles east of Ammanford and they were relegated from Division 1 at the end of the 2015 season.
In the top game, Richard Morton and Nick Thomas proved to be too strong for Stuart Dunn and Jacob Liles winning comfortably by five and four.
Second out were Tenby’s Graham More and Lewis Hurlow who eventually defeated Paul Murray and Chris Phillips following a few mid-round wobbles.
Ben Childs and Viv John were on the wrong end of an early birdie blitz from Gareth Davies and Dylan Jones. They found themselves three down after five, but recovered to halve an excellent tie.
Garnant’s skipper Bradley Hilton who was partnered by Wayne Trottman, claimed that his game against Chris Thompson and Roger Schooling was the best he had ever been involved with in the Dyfed League despite losing three and two.
Andrew Cope and Paul Jenkins enjoyed a wonderful tussle against Ian Griffiths and Delme Davies before winning on the last green, two up.
Darren Thomas and Loz Phillips were two up on the 16th tee, but managed to lose the last three holes and consequently succumbed one down to Noel Davies and Liam Griffiths.
Martin Morris and Dai Cope were behind for much of their game, but finished strongly for a two up win against Neil Larkworthy and James Murray.
Despite both playing steady golf, Ian Thomas and Chris Beecher could not quite get the better of Chris Hope and John Dunn and thus lost by the narrowest of margins, one down.
In the tailend game, Gary McNeilly’s recent good form continued and he, together with Richard Ormond, beat Peter Thomas and Brian Jones by five and four.
Tenby G.C. is now half-way through its 2016 campaign albeit most of the remaining fixtures are away from home. However, next Saturday’s home match is against old rivals Newport who have tended to give Tenby a tough time in recent years.
