Any golfer will tell you that a medal is one of the hardest formats to play in golf, and a mixed foursomes medal is the hardest. But the Mathias Thomas Trophy is that format and the wonderful weather and good company made it a most enjoyable game today.

Fourteen couples entered this Bank Holiday game, which unfortunately clashed with the Dyfed Union Open Mixed Competition at South Pembs., and a number of our ladies going away for half-term.

There were three twos today from Paul and Ros Jenkins on the sixth, Tim and Denise Edwards on the 12th and Paul Bradley and Rebecca Naden on the 17th. Each won a sleeve of balls.

Thanks to Rhys for preparing the cards and doing a random bag draw. Paul and Rosina Jenkins, David T. Morgan and Laura McQueen, and Sue and John Hancock each won £4 in the bag draw.

John Hancock and Sue Griffiths just missed out on the prizes with a highly commendable 86 gross - 75 nett. In third prize with the same nett but a better back nine were John Ball and Sue Shooter. Second were Denise and Tim Edwards with a fantastic 80 gross - 70.5 nett, who lost out on the back nine to Jim Moffatt and Anne Wilks. Anne had filled in at the last moment for Maura Gunning so both must have been delighted to win this prestigious trophy, donated many years ago by a well-known Tenby family.

Advance warning was given of the Ackermann Trophy which is now on the computer. It is to be played on the evening of Friday, June 24, and is a draw for partners. On June 26, there is a mixed friendly match against St. Pierre. They would like the same eight couples who have played them before so if that was you go and sign up on the back wall. Also we are going to try and have a Friendly Foursomes over 14 holes on Friday, July 15. Again, a notice will go on the back wall for you to sign up.

Finally, thanks to Lee and Connor for seeing to our clubhouse needs, and to Laura for helping me with the cards.

H.K.M.
