Traditionally the Brooks Cup is played in Tenby on Easter Saturday, but this year the forecast was heavy rain all day, so it was postponed.

What a treat we had with the weather on Sunday. There was a cool wind, but the sun was lovely and a good time was had by all!

Twenty-two couples played, which was a good turnout, and there was an excellent pace of play.

The course was in good condition for the time of year, but unusually there were no twos recorded at all.

Four lucky pairs won the bag draw of £5 per person. They were Anne Wilks and Wyndham Collins, Gareth and Angela Davies, Georgina Ormond and Mark Griffiths, and Chris and Helen Hughes.

There were some excellent scores in, especially towards the back of the field.

It was also lovely to see some new pairings playing this year and we look forward to welcoming them again in the next events.

Special mention must be given to Maura Gunning and Jim Moffatt and Irene and John Gilman, who came in with a superb 38 points, just missing out on the prizes.

In fourth place with 39 points were Diane and Andy Williams, third with 40 points were Julie Tordoff and Nigel Ayers. In second place was our father and daughter pairing of Nick and Seren Allen with 41 points, well done to both. Finally, the winners of the Brooks Cup for 2016 were Gill John with (a welcome returning member) Jeff Banfield. Their score of 44 points was a worthy score for such a prestigious piece of silverware.

Next Sunday we have our annual mixed friendly match against Ashburnham. Tee-off times start at 11 am at Ashburnham. Then on Sunday, May 29, we have the Mathias Thomas Medal Cup to play for here in Tenby. Those times are bookable on the computer.

Thanks to Tom for sorting out the entry cards in the Pro Shop, to Laura for running the scores on the computer, to Lyn for seeing us well ‘watered’ in the bar, and last but not least to the greens staff for the never-ending job of taming Tenby Links.

H.K.M.
