December 29 saw a large number of players from all sections of the club participate in the inaugural Xmas Sweater competition, organised by the Senior Section.
With the weather set fair, only a slight breeze and the course in fabulous condition, thanks to the hard work of the greenkeepers, some big scores were anticipated from the mixed field.
Players enjoyed a mince pie in the clubhouse prior to commencement of their rounds. Everyone who played thoroughly enjoyed their day and complimented the greenkeepers on the magnificent state of the course.
After all cards were submitted and scrutinised, the prizes were awarded to the following: 1. Steve (Fonz) Evans 37 pts; 2. Peter Johnson 36, better back nine; 3. Anthony Watkins 36; 4. Matthew Smith-Wrench 35; 5. Darrell Willington 34, better back nine; 6. Chris Clarkson, better back nine; 7. Paul Nixon 34.
Winners of the ‘best sweaters’ were Hillary Harries, who took the beautiful chocolate sponge donated by Mrs. Mary Willington, and Mike Bradney, who won a bottle of wine and some golf balls.
The picture shows one of the groups prior to playing, just to provide an idea of the range of sweaters on show, and there were many more that were even more astoundingly eye-catching.
After all of the presentations, Seniors captain, Mike Bradney, thanked everyone who had helped to organise such an enjoyable day, those who had donated prizes, the cooks, the greenkeepers for their hard work, his vice-captain for donating the mince pies and the panel of judges on the day.
