Coppet Week has been and gone, but there will be lots of great memories as it was possibly one of the best week’s sailing in many years. The sun was shining all week and the wind behaved itself, with just one cancellation, but we managed to double up the race on the following day.
All the visitors were enjoying the local hospitality and were made more than welcome by the house management team of Mark and Sian, busy serving meals or organising the bar. Out on the water, John and his race team had the fleet in control and thanks to them, along with Keith on the safety.
To organise an event as big as this takes a lot of volunteers and too many for me to mention here, but a big thank you to all members and non-members who came along, it all helps when you are a big team.
The visitors came from all over and there were 70 boats sailing from all classes of dinghies which is a great spectacle and especially when the colourful kites go up as the wind blows.
On the final day, it was the turn of Saundersfoot Sailing Club members to show the visitors how to sail; we did not manage to win the race, but a great result from Paul and Julia in the RS200 as they came second in the pursuit race. Also worth a big mention, Lloyd and Rosie Mammatt, who were placed near the top of the rankings, as last year they only learned to sail and have come on to show the rest of us how it should be done.
A great week and I know many have already booked to return next year.
This Week’s Racing
Sunday, June 12, with two races starting at 11 am. Jo and Hywel on duty.
The Bosun’s Locker
All the kit is now back in the locker and thanks to Terry for getting it all cleaned and organised ready for the next racing. We did manage to help a few visitors with repairs, so that proved a success at Coppet Week as well.
