Last week, the Boys Home Internationals took place at St. Anne’s Old Links between Lytham and Blackpool on the Lancashire coast.
All four home countries play against each other. The format is foursomes in the morning and singles each afternoon.
Tenby GC’s Luke Harries played all six games for Wales. Partnered with George Bryant. of Staddon Heights GC, Luke won all three of his foursomes.
In the singles, he gained halves against both England’s Charlie Strickland and Scotland’s Darren Howie. However, despite being three under par, he lost 3 and 2 to Ireland’s Mark Power, who was six under par when the game finished!
As reported previously in the Tenby Observer, this week Luke moved on to Scotland where the British Boys’ Championships are being held at the Nairn and Nairn Dunbar courses near Inverness.
Players from 28 countries are competing in the 252-strong field which includes last year’s winner, Falko Hanisch, of Germany, and runner-up, Alejandro Aguilera, of Spain.
Two rounds of strokeplay decide the top 64 for the matchplay, which culminates in a 36-hole final on Sunday.
Previous winners include Ryder Cup players such as Howard Clark, Ronan Rafferty, José Maria Olazabal, David Howell, Sergio Garcia and Matthew Fitzpatrick as well as Wales’ Mark Mouland, Calvin O’Carroll and Rhys Davies.
