The second round of the Commodore’s quiz and league was held last Saturday, with a further three teams joining in the fun. The current leaders are Cola Clan, with the Lone Dogs bringing up the rear.
It is not too late to join in the league, as not everyone will be able to make it every month, so it will all equal out in the end. All league points will be accumulated until the final in November, so there is still all to play for.
If you don’t want to take part in the league that’s not a problem, just come down and join in the fun, cost is £5 per team of up to six people or if you feel like going it alone, it will be just a mere £1.
Running alongside the quiz will also be a raffle at £1 a square. It’s all for charity, so get a team together and head on down to the club.
Due to Easter weekend being at the end of March, the next quiz will be brought forward to March 24.
The next social event planned for the club is a Mother’s Day gathering. Final plans are being put together, but it will consist of nibbles and a glass of Prosecco. It will be a point of meeting for families to have a natter and a drink in the warm and welcoming club, and this will lead nicely on to the Wales Six Nations match.
It is also intended to hold a ‘start of the season party’ where all are welcome. It will be held after the first race of the season on Saturday, March 31, so whether you take part in the junior section, are a seasoned racer or just want to come down to kick the season off in style, full details will be on all social media platforms, the club website and will also be emailed out to members as soon as they are finalised.
Dinghy Show 2018
TSC will be attending the RYA London Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace tomorrow (Saturday). We will be there to talk to classes interested in holding National Championships at TSC. We are looking for classes 2023 onwards who have at least 60 active boats.
Juniors
With the new season approaching, we are looking forward to junior sailing nights starting again on a Wednesday evening.
Hopefully most of last year’s young members will continue to attend, and in addition we can cater for a limited number of newcomers each month.
The minimum age to start sailing at TSC is eight years, but older children are welcome.
Enrolment sessions will be held on Wednesdays, March 21 and 28, at 6 pm. Parent/guardians are required to countersign entry forms. If there is a problem turning up on those nights or for any further information, then phone Blake on 07717842713 (email [email protected]
Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday, April 4, Please turn up by 5 pm to get on the water by 5.45 pm. BBQ food available after sailing, with parents invited to come along and join in.
There will be beginners, intermediates and racing groups, plus youngsters will be working towards gaining Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 certificates of the RYA junior scheme.
Juniors need to be members of the club (£15 or £10 if part of a family). A payment of £45 will cover the training session for the whole six-month season until the end of September. This will include an initial junior logbook.
For those who want a first try, it will be £10 for a month.
The club has 29 dinghies for members’ use, including Optimists, Teras, Toppers, Fevas, Lasers etc. It has also recently purchased two new Feva double-handed dinghies.
Finally, a big change this year is the inclusion of more racing sessions. Those with Stage 3 and above will be encouraged to join the racing group when weather conditions are suitable.
