For a team that only had four wins to its name come the end of November, Carew have now become the form side in division one after they secured their sixth consecutive victory over the weekend.

The win came against notable opponents, too, as they beat Narberth 5-0, with county player Jordan Richards scoring three of them, while Iwan Izzard and James Hinchliffe added the others.

Richards’s signing for the Rooks from Tenby has certainly made a difference to the side, his strength, positioning and skill on the ball allowing others to play around him and in turn feeding him the balls for him to score. His arrival, together with that of Scott Ferney, has turned Carew from a workmanlike, battling team capable of springing the odd victory here and there into a formidable one and the confidence within the squad is soaring.

A true test on how far they have come in recent months will be this weekend when they play second place West Dragons, who have won 10 matches this season to Carew’s eight. It promises to be an intriguing encounter.

Elsewhere in the division there was a game of truly epic proportions at Monkton as the home side beat Tenby 8-6. Two goals by James Russell led the way for the Swifts, with the others coming from Ryan Griffiths, Tom Baldry, Tom Powell, Matthew Davies and Alan Jones, while Sam Christopher scored five of Tenby’s six, with Jack Christopher nipping in the other.

Pennar Robins, meanwhile, won just their second game of the season after a 5-2 win over Milford United. Carl Rees stole the show by scoring three alongside solitary strikes from Phil Thompson and Connor Rees.

Not such a good result for Lamphey, however, as a John Sture goal was all they had to show for their 3-1 loss at West Dragons.

In division two, St. Clears went down 3-1 at second placed Fishguard Sports, with Jon Seally grabbing their only goal, while Lawrenny went down by the same margin at Hakin United seconds, Matthew Lewis scoring their only goal.

Hundleton were in fine form at home against Letterston as a flurry of goals by the hosts saw them win 8-1. Aaron Goldsmith scored three and Rhodri Davies two in the one-sided win as Brandon Sture, Craig Manning and Dylan Davies all scored.

Losing 3-1 was the name of the game in the division on Saturday as Saundersfoot Sports lost by that margin at home to Clarbeston Road. Jake Wester scored for the Sports.

Division three teams were in a mix of league and cup action, with Kilgetty playing in round two of the competition and winning. They comfortably beat Milford United’s second team 3-0 thanks to goals from Henry Lawrence, Jordan Gorman and Mike Beynon.

Victory for Carew seconds in the competition also as they came from behind to beat Narberth seconds 4-1. Dafydd Wright gave the Bluebirds the lead, but four goals by Adam Hughes ensured the Rooks were victorious, making it a day of double celebration for the club over Narberth.

Manorbier United were in league actio,n losing 4-3 away at Llangwm, while Pendine beat Clarbeston Road seconds 7-0 as Callum O’Connell scored three alongside a brace apiece for Kieran Lewis and Ryan Pearce.

A goal by Josh Powell wasn’t enough to prevent Angle seconds from going down 3-1 at home to Fishguard Sports, while it was all-square between Herbrandston seconds and Pennar Robins’ thirds, with the game finishing 4-4. Marco Valentine scored all of the Robins’ goals.

Lamphey seconds were in imperious form, winning 10-2 at home to St. Ishmaels’ seconds, while two own goals contributed to Pembroke Boro losing 3-2 at home to West Dragons’ seconds. Phil John scored two for the hosts.

No such bad luck for St. Florence, however, as they won 6-1 at Prendergast Villa seconds. Ashley Smith scored four for the away team, with Owen Bateman and Jake Clarke netting the other two.

St. Clears’ seconds lost 5-3 at home to Hubberston, with the goals coming from Will Evans, Lewis Thomson and a Joe Goldingray penalty.

In division five, Carew thirds beat Milford United thirds 4-1 thanks to goals from Ben Pugh and three from Declan Escott, while a Miles Johnson goal was all Lawrenny had to show for their 7-1 defeat at home to Kilgetty seconds.

Jonny and Connor Hay scored in Hundleton seconds’ 2-1 win at Letterston reserves, while Monkton Swifts’ seconds had the bragging rights over their counterparts from Pembroke Boro after winning 12-1 at home.
