Carew have produced some good football teams over the years but it remains to be seen if any have the steely determination of the current team that dons the shirt.
If a 3-3 result against Hakin United a few weeks ago wasn’t proof of that then their win over Mumbles Rangers in the quarter final of the West Wales Cup certainly was as the Rooks had to come from behind to sneak the win.
Mumbles proved to be a tough nut to crack early on and quickly went in to a two goal lead that they held for a good proportion of the game before Jack Christopher reduced the deficit prior to his brother Sam, drawing the team level.
His goal spurred the hosts on allowing Sean Whitfield to slip in for the Rook’s third which proved to be decisive.
The result, alongside other wins for Pembrokeshire clubs in the round means they now play Giants Grave at Garden Village on Wednesday, March 27, two weeks after their senior cup semi-final game at the Bridge Meadow against Pennar Robins.
Pennar didn’t do too well in their warm up for that game against the current division one leaders Monkton Swifts who showed no mercy on the visitors to end up 9-0 winners.
Pennar had no answer to the home team’s dominance as Ben Steel scored three, Dylan Davies two and solitary strikes from James Russell, Martyn Carroll, Blake James and Ryan Griffiths.
A win for Narberth too after they beat Milford United 5-3 thanks to goals by Ben John, Kyle Quartermaine, Dafydd Wright and two from Chris Brown.
Will Evans ensured three points went St Clears’ way after his hat-trick inspired the Saints to a 6-2 win at home over Herbrandston.
Steve Thomas scored twice alongside a single goal by Sean Seymour-Davies.
In division two, Connor Hay’s goal ensured Hundleton drew 1-1 with Llangwm H’W CC while two goals by Jordan Gorman and one by Josh Bevan helped Kilgetty to a 3-0 win over Broad Haven.
Not such good news for Lawrenny, however, after they went down 2-1 at home against Hakin United seconds, Harry Thomas grabbing their only goal.
In the second round of the third division cup, Monkton second progressed thanks to a 5-3 win at Clarbeston Road seconds after a Luke Hardy brace, one by Jamie Preece and and own goal while St Clears’ seconds are out following a 3-0 loss at Milford United seconds.
Back in league action, Carew seconds lost 2-0 at Fishguard Sports’ seconds by Narberth seconds were unable to field a side at Milford Athletic while Pendine’s home game against Goodwick seconds was postponed after Goodwick failed to raise a side.
Pembroke Boro were able too however as they beat Solva seconds 3-2 thanks to Phil John’s brace and one from Stuart Slater.
In division four, Pennar thirds game at Broad Haven seconds was postponed, while Cosheston had the bragging rights over Hundleton seconds winning 7-0.
There were two each for Nathan Ferrier and Lee Duignan and single goals by Sam Richards, Dalton Boswell and Pankavach Leghiae.
Kilgetty seconds were unable to raise a side at Llangwm H’west CC seconds while Pembroke Boro fell agonisingly short of a result at home against Neyland seconds losing 6-5.
Jamie Aires scored three for the Boro with other goals coming from Steffan Townsend and Joe Williamson.
In division five, Carew thirds were unable to raise a side for their game at Newport Tigers while Tenby beat Saundersfoot Sports’ seconds 7-4 after a Jake Hipkiss hat-trick was followed by goals by Matt Webb, Levi Hughes and and own goals while Saundersfoot’s goals were scored by Jake Websters and an Adam Davidson hat-trick.
