The final weekend of league football in 2018 proved to be a dramatic one in Pembrokeshire with one game being non-fulfilled due to a side not being able to raise a team, another being abandoned to due to the referee taking ill and a club cementing themselves as proper favourites for the division one title.

St Clears made the long trip to Goodwick and their game was cut short after referee Paul Jackson took ill during the match and was rushed to hospital.

The Pembrokeshire football community was quick to pull together to offer their well wishes for the well-respected official who showed signs of recovery later that evening.

At Carew a different kind of drama played out as Saundersfoot Sports paid the Rooks a visit and put league form behind them to push the hosts close.

Geoff Marsh and Adam Davison scored the visitors’ goals however two from Jordan Richards and an own goal ensured Carew picked up their 8th win of the season to continue their hopes of challenging for league honours.

Narberth were successful too, winning by the same margin at Milford United after a brace by Tony Evans and one from Dafydd Wright while Monkton showed their form and their genuine title aspirations by beating Hakin United 4-2.

The Swifts may have had home advantage although that counts for little when teams entertain the Vikings. It did on this occasion though with the hosts dominating from start to finish.

Tom Powell got the ball rolling for the second placed team in the league, followed by goals from Blake James, Ben Steele and James Russell.

The result ensures the Swifts continue to fly hot on the heels of Goodwick who are two points ahead of them having played one game more.

A few miles away at Bush Camp, Pennar played host to Herbrandston with the home side smashing the visitors 7-2.

Ben Adams was the star scoring five goals with Sam Southcott and Nick Willis adding the others.

In division two Hundleton had a rare win after the divisions’ bottom placed side picked up their third victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Prendergast Villa.

Dan Griffiths, Jake Davies and Sam Sharp scored for the hosts.

Kilgetty went down by the same margin at Johnston after the Tigers eased to a 3-1 win with Kilgetty’s only score coming from Henry Lawrence while in Haverfordwest, Lawrenny went down 8-1 against Merlins Bridge seconds, the away team’s only goal coming from Ryan Morton.

In division three, Monkton Swifts’ seconds emulated their first team by winning following a 5-2 win at Milford Athletic.

Victory for Narberth seconds too after they defeated Clarbeston Road seconds 4-1 with Ryan Thomas netting three and Adi Jones the other.

There was an exciting game at London Road after Pembroke Boro played host to Pennar Robins’ seconds.

Given the players know each other so well a close game was inevitable and so it proved with Pennar just coming out on top 5-3.

Phil John scored twice for the hosts with Jordan Wright adding the other while Pennar’s goals came from Rhys Sture, William Coalshaw, Craig Asparassa and a Connor Willis brace.

The game between Pendine and Milford United seconds was not fulfilled after Milford were unable to raise a side.

St Clears’ seconds entertained Carew seconds with the points staying at home after the hosts won 2-1. Carew’s goal came courtesy of an own goal however a Joe Gouldingay strike together with a Steve Trivett goal helped lead the home team to victory.

Meanwhile, two Jay Kennedy goals were not enough to prevent St Florence from going down 8-2 at home to Goodwick United.
