It may have gone unnoticed, but the cricket season starts on Sunday which usually suggests the football season is over and summer sports can begin.
That’s not the case this year, however. Even now, in mid-April, we’re having postponements due to the incessant rain and some clubs have 10 games still to play.
Even if they were to play three games a week, it means the season won’t finish for another four weeks or so.
On Tuesday, Carew’s game against Lamphey was postponed yet the division four cup final was able to take place with Pennar Robins thirds beating Fishguard Sports seconds 1-0 thanks to Cameron Brunton’s goal.
In division five, Carew thirds’ game away at Milford Athletic seconds was postponed, but goals from Sam Coleman, Adam Davidson and Mihai Pop helped Saundersfoot Sports’ seconds to a 3-2 win over Pembroke Boro seconds whose goals were scored by George McBeth and Rhys Anderson.
On Monday, Joe Kidney scored twice for Lawrenny, however his goals didn’t prevent them from losing 5-2 at home to St. Clears.
Sean Seymour-Davies led the way for the Saints with a brace of goals, while the others came from Nathan Evans, Jon Seeley and Nick Squire.
Saundersfoot won 5-0 at Llangwm, while Kilgetty lost 1-0 to Merlins Bridge seconds.
In division three, Pembroke Boro lost 5-0 at Goodwick United seconds, while Narberth seconds beat Manorbier United 6-2.
Lewis Hough led from the front for Narberth with a brace of goals, the others coming from Harri Harries, Llewellyn Jones, Karl Jones and Ben John.
Angle seconds lost 5-0 at home to Neyland seconds, with Hundleton seconds beating Milford United thirds 3-1 after a brace by Connor Hay and one from Billy Abrahams.
On Saturday, Narberth beat Neyland 6-2, Angle lost 13-1 at Clarbeston Road, with Carew winning 3-1 at Milford United.
Monkton lost 1-0 at home to Goodwick United, with Pennar going down 5-2 at home to Hakin.
In division two, Hundleton beat Prendergast Villa 7-2, Kilgetty drew 0-0 with Fishguard Sports, with St Clears winning the battle of the Saints 2-0 after they defeated St. Ishmaels.
Lawrenny beat Solva 5-1, while Saundersfoot’s game at Merlins Bridge seconds was postponed.
In division three, Carew seconds overcame Goodwick United seconds 2-1, while Narberth seconds went down 4-2 at home to Camrose.
Pembroke Boro beat Manorbier United 7-2, with Pendine going down 7-1 at home to Pennar Robins seconds.
St. Florence won 3-2 at home to Clarbeston Road. Angle seconds suffered another heavy defeat, losing 16-0 at home to Solva seconds, but better news for Monkton Swifts seconds after they beat Fishguard Sports’ seconds 4-1.
St. Clears’ seconds lost 2-0 at Pennar thirds, while Kilgetty seconds won 5-1 at home to Llangwm seconds.
Meanwhile, in division five, Lawrenny seconds lost 3-0 at Camrose, Cosheston beat Milford United 2-1, with Saundersfoot seconds beating Carew thirds 4-3.
Hundleton seconds’ game at home to Letterston was postponed because Letterston were unable to raise a side.
